Explorer's Guide
offered American Sailing Association Course
Schedule to be posted shortly. We hope
to start mid May and continue to mid Sept. weather permitting. We need a
minimum of three people with a max of six. Four is ideal. Normal schedule
starts at 8:00 Saturday and finishes mid afternoon on Sunday. Other days can
also be arranged.
ASA Sailing Courses
We offer two ASA sailing courses during
the summer months in Green Bay, Wisconsin
Basic Keelboat (101)
Prerequisites: None General Description: Able to sail a boat of about 20 feet
in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters
without supervision. A preparatory Standard with no auxiliary power or
navigation skills required.
Basic Coastal Cruising (103)
Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing Certificate General Description: Able
to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on an
auxiliary powered sailboat of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in moderate winds
and sea conditions. |
Recreation Boaters
Courses
We are happy to offer two types of
recreational boaters courses. The first is through our affiliation with ASA.
The second are courses developed based on our experience as USCG Approved
Course instructors
We have just completed the Marine
Radar for Recreation Boaters 101. If you have radar and do not know how to
use it, this course is for you. If you have marine radar someone on the boat
must know how to use it. Not just for safety, but it is also the law.

ASA Navigation
Courses
We offer two ASA navigation courses.
These include:
Radar Endorsement (Radar) Basic
knowledge of chart reading, compass use, piloting, and dead reckoning is
required, equivalent to Coastal Navigation 105 or instructors
approval. Description: The ASA radar course
teaches safe, efficient use of small-craft radar for piloting, chart
navigation, and collision avoidance, including radar principles and practical
matters of radar operation. A realistic PC based radar simulator is used in the
course to illustrate radar measurements.
Coastal Navigation Standard
(105); General Description: Able to demonstrate the navigational
theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland
waters. There is no Sailing Skills part to this Standard and practical
application of this Sailing Knowledge is found in the Advanced Coastal Cruising
Standard. |
