Online Master of Vessels 100-Ton with Assistance Towing  Course

Master of Vessels 100 Tons is an 80 hour course. It includes all the materials in both the operator of uninspected passenger vessel (OUPV) and Masters 100 Ton upgrade course. If you do not have a merchant mariner’s license and are interested in working with inspected vessels, this course is for you!

Course includes Assistance Towing at no additional cost.

Course fees includes all course materials, instruction, student manual, exams, college credit, and Certificate of Completion. No traveling to the Regional Exam Center for U.S.C.G. exams.

There are four proctored exams at the end of this course including Rules of the Road, Navigation General, Plotting, Deck Safety, and Deck General.

You have 18 weeks to complete the course. We suggest trying to do it as quickly as you can.

100-Ton Masters License is for inspected vessels with a gross tonnage up to 100 tons. The licenses are issued according to the tonnage of the vessel you gained your sea service on. These include 25 ton, 50 ton and 100 ton.

The licenses are also issued for Inland Waters, Great Lakes, or Near Coastal depending on your sea service records.

Master of Inland and Great Lakes: 360 days underway experience since age 15; with 90 in the last 3 years on the Great Lakes

*Master Near Coastal: 720 days underway experience since age 15 with 90 in the last 3 years; 360 of those 720 days outside the boundary lines.

Tonnage calculation for Masters License;

For 50 Ton Masters you need one day on a vessel over 5 net tons.

For 100 ton Masters you need EITHER: 1) Maximum tonnage on which 25% of required experience obtained, OR 2) 150% tonnage on which at least 50% of experience obtained.

So for a 100 ton license Inland or Great Lakes you need 90 days (25% of 360) on a vessel over 50 tons or 180 days on a vessel of at least 34 tons.

With an Explorer's Guide U.S.C.G.-approved 100-Ton Masters Upgrade Course, all test fees are included. In addition, you receive detailed instruction on the required topics to make you a responsible and safe U.S.C.G. Licensed Captain. That knowledge makes taking the exams much easier.
