The 24-hour Masters 100 Ton Upgrade
provides an opportunity to holders of a OUPV to raise their grade to a Master
level license. The Masters License allows you to operate inspected vessels and
uninspected vessels and is required by the USCG for any inspected vessel
certified to carry more than six passengers for hire.
The Masters Licenses is for vessels
with a gross tonnage upto 100 tons. They are issues depending on the tonnage of
the vessel you gained your sea service on. These include 25 ton, 50 ton and 100
ton.
The license are also issues for either
inland waters, Great Lakes or near coastal. Again this is dependent on your sea
service records.
As this is an upgrade, you need to have
a vaid OUPV license. Many mariners will take the OUPV first then upgrade within
a year to the Masters. There are two exams. If you have not taken a Rules of
the Road exam within the last year, you will need to retake that at the end of
the class with the other exams. The USCG website provides the detailed
requirements for each license. Here are the minimum items for OUPV:
- 19 years old
- U.S. Citizen
- Speak English
- Master - Inland and Great Lakes: 360
days underway experience since age 15; with 90 in the last 3 years on the Great
Lakes
- Master Near Coastal: 720 days
underway experience since age 15 with 90 in the last 3 years; 360 of those 720
days outside the boundary lines.
With an Explorer's Guide USCG approved
OUPV Course, all testing fees are included. In addition, you receive detailed
instruction on the required topics to make you a responsible and safe U.S.C.G.
Licensed Captain. That knowledge makes taking the exams much easier.
Course Fee is $295 which
includes all course materials, instruction, student manual, exams, and
Certificate of Completion. No traveling to the Regional Exam Center for
U.S.C.G. exams. Note: online course is slightly more.No add-on
costs.
