This is a National Maritime Center USCG approved online course in partnership with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. The courses are accredited. As a added value, this is ideal for tuition reimbursement, college credits, and continuing education credits.

Assistance Towing Course - $110. This course covers the various aspect of assistance towing. It provides a good understanding of the topic so you can preform these duties in a safe manner. Limited Route OUPV Online Course - $250. This includes the course materials, instruction, and exams. This course is for Lake Winnebago System, Rock River System, and Fox River, IL. MASTERS 100 TON UPGRADE ONLINE COURSE - Course cost is $335 includes the course proctor. . The course must be completed within four weeks. There are nine modules grouped into three sections. Each section has an online exam plus a final exam. When you have a 90% correct in the four exams, you are ready for the proctored two final exams. It follows the same formate and content as our classroom course.

Added Help: If you have a question that can not be handled by email, we can use Adobe Connect to provide live help no matter were you are located. All you need is internet access and a browser.

We are very excited about the course; however it is not for everyone! You must be able to self-pass your studies so the course is completed within the maximum time period from your start date. You need to have good reading comprehension and be able to be self-taught.

OUPV Course cost is $645. This includes the course materials kit - Weems & Plath dividers and parallel ruler, Rules of the Road, Chart 1, student manual in three-ring binder, color light list for Navigation Rules, day shape flash cards, student CD with most of the download materials, and 5-foot length of rope (1/2") for knot tying.

The OUPV course is broken down into fifteen modules, with one to seven individual lesson plans. Each lesson plan contains:
  • Lecture on the topic very similar to our classroom course
  • Reading assignments from student manual, government publications, or websites
  • Exercises to test your skills
  • Online practical exam, which you need at least a 90% correct (Yes, you can take it multiple times)
  • Video clips on selected topics

Plotting can be fun as well as challenging. We start you out with several lectures then move onto 11" x 17" charting sheets to test out your new skills. Once you understand the difference between a running and a three point fix, you move onto the large NOAA charts, working through the final series of problems.

One you complete all the exams, work exercises, and have at least a 90% correct score on each of the module exams, you can request to take the final 5-part exam at a proctored location, any of our classroom sites, or at NWTC. We have proctors in many areas and are adding more. NOTE: The five exams are closed book so you need to study for the exams.
