Master of Vessel 100 Tons license

This Master of Vessels 100 Ton class is the OUPV class withte Master Upgrade. Successful completion of this class and exam allows the student to apply for a Master license up to 100 tons based on your experience. With this Master's license, you will be able to operate an inspected vessel with more than six passengers.

For a Master's license up to 100 tons, the mariner must:
● Be at least 19 years old for Inland/Great Lake; 21 year old for Near Coastal
● Be a U.S. Citizen
● Speak and understand English
● Be able to get TWIC
Have required sea service - 360 days inland & 720 days near coastal. 90 days must have been logged in the last 3 years
● The tonnage on your license depends on your sea service. One day on a vessel over 5 gross tons gets you a 50 ton masters license; 180 days on a vessel over 34 gross tons or 90 days on a vesssel over 51 gross tons gets you a 100 ton license. Remember for near coastal thsee number double.
There are six proctored exams
- Rules of the Road, fifty questions 90% correct
- Plotting, ten questions 70% correct
- Navigation General, twenty questions 70% correct
- Deck General, twenty questions, 70% correct
- Deck Safety and Environmental, 70 questions 70%

For USCG students, please note: our Rules of the Road exam can be used for Deck Watch Officer credentials, but DWO does not count for the rules exam. This is a NMC policy.
